Team Production Project

This was the first time I worked with a production team in school. My job was lead 3D character and enviromental modeler and designer and later on I also became lead Rigger. Two rigs of the main character were used in this production. I'll post my rig soon.

This class taught me a ton about being on a production team. You don't sleep at all. And being a senior your on call 24/7 when something doesn't work or needs to be modeled in a day. The bird and entire island that are featured in this animation I model those in a day and rigged the main character in a night.

Through all the troubles we had. Would I do it again? Yes, in a heart beat because 3D modeling and rigging are my passion.

Date: 9/7/2011

What are you in charge of: Clean up of main character to make the rigging process easier.

Progress within your specific job:

à        Built model of entire bus stop: includes sidewalk, street, bushes, bus stop and sign, bike rack, and fire hydrant

à        Built entire model of bird within a day

à        Gave character modelers generic head and body to modify into our present character

à        Reconstructed finished model of character (earlier colored version is my work): added color, modeled tie and collar, rounded out legs and arms to look more human, changed the height of torso and legs to correct anatomy, thinned out body structure to match character’s, and cleaned up typology for rigging

à        Made changes by request to the character’s hand structure, shoes, arms, and tie

à        Built the entire model of the character’s head: hair, eyes, eyebrows, and head

à        Built model of entire island set: palm trees, hammock, waterfall (earlier one), house, sand, and chairs in front of the house

à        Fixed model of briefcase so that it would open

à        Placed the correct edge loops on character head and body

à        Built 5 models of building for the background of the city set

All finished by July 26, 2011 went on strike for the weekend (Time frame of a week)

à        Remodeled new hair that was pleasing to character designer and the animation squad upon request

à        Helped to texture the city set

à        Cut the city into 3 different sections to make smaller workable files

à        Re-rigged entire character and skinned legs and one arm to help Lead Rigger.

à        Became the new Lead Rigger and skinned the entire character over again from scratch within a night to hand it to the team by morning.

à        Re-textured the 3 different city scapes because of Max 12 problems

à        Added teeth to the character

à        Troubleshooted and fixed new rig malfunctions for animators

à        Taught some animators how to use new rig

Progress within the group’s job: My work ethic and speedy modeling helped to get both the main character and bird done within two weeks. The eniviromental sets were completed ahead of time, and the animation process is ahead of schedule.
